Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome

This summary is based on an upcoming research article: “Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome: Exploring Neuroimmune Pathology and Multisystem Framework for Differential Diagnosis in Pediatrics”, scheduled for publication next month.

Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) is a chronic immune disorder caused by exposure to mold, Lyme, or other biotoxins. In people with certain genetics, the immune system fails to clear these toxins and instead gets stuck in a loop of inflammation that affects multiple systems at once — including the brain, hormones, immune system, gut and nervous system. This is why people experience a mix of symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, anxiety, temperature issues, unrefreshing sleep, gut problems and hormonal disruption — often misdiagnosed as burnout, autoimmune disease, long COVID, fibromyalgia or ME/CFS.

CIRS is often missed because standard bloodwork does not detect it. It requires specific immune-based testing such as C4a, TGF-β1, MMP-9, ADH/osmolality, MSH, VIP and HLA-DR genetics, plus environmental mold testing and a visual contrast sensitivity (VCS) test. These allow doctors to confirm the diagnosis and measure progress.

Most importantly, CIRS does not resolve on its own. The proven treatment process begins with removing exposure, using binders to clear toxins from the body, addressing nasal infections like MARCoNS and then correcting damaged inflammatory and hormone pathways. Once the immune system is stabilized, people can finally heal.

This research is important because it shows CIRS is a real, measurable and treatable condition — not a mystery illness — and may be the missing diagnosis for many people with long-term unexplained symptoms.
